La Tablee des Chefs
Quebec
La Tablée des Chefs’ mission can be summed up in two words: Feed. Educate.
Feed today, to fight against food insecurity, and educate young people to develop their food autonomy.
FEED | Through its food recovery program, La Tablée des Chefs acts as a liaison between surplus food donors and local community organizations that will ensure the recovery of the food donated and its distribution to people in need. Since its creation in 2003, this program has allowed the organization to recover and distribute more than 5 million meals.
EDUCATE | Through its mission to educate, La Tablée de Chefs help to develop culinary education for youth through its various programs and cooking classes offered in high schools and in community and youth centres. The creation of formative and fun cooking programs works toward an important goal- educating future generations on developing their food autonomy.
“I want to extend my sincerest congratulations to La Tablée des Chefs on reaching 2 million meals prepared. This is an enormous accomplishment, and this project has made a real impact in improving food security in Quebec as a result of COVID-19. Our government will continue to be there to ensure Canada`s most vulnerable people have access to good, healthy food.” – Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
How your donations will help
Your donations will support the Kitchen Brigades program, which has been offered as an after-school program in high schools since 2012 in Quebec and since 2019 elsewhere in Canada. It targets youth aged 12 to 17 through workshops that focus on learning basic cooking techniques and healthy eating habits. Groups of 16 to 25 students who attend the program throughout the year benefit from nearly 40 hours of hands-on cooking and healthy eating training! They gain knowledge and skills that will be useful for the rest of their lives! This year, the Kitchen Brigades is present in about 200 schools in Quebec and approximately 20 in the rest of Canada!
